Hartmans Family Restaurant

For 4 years I worked at this nice little ice cream shop/ family restaurant nestled in the Slate Belt area. They had great home style cooking for everyone to enjoy, and a little something sweet for all the customers. Hartmans also made their very own homemade Ice cream. The icecream was so good on a nice hot summers day to help you cool off from the heat. All the employees were very friendly ( Most Of The Time) :-) I always felt it to be a great work environment, I really felt at home during the years of employment inside Hartmans. Shortly after I was employed at the begining of 2006 business started to slowly disipate customer by customer. There would always be here say about hartmans closing their doors for years but nothing ever happened. All the employees still went to work with a smile on their face even though the servers would leave with only $25 a night on a friday! It was getting to be really sad. The owners slowly began to fire people, lay people off, and cut hours constantly. Most of the times the employees would wonder when we would all hear news of the place closing down. As the economy began to get worse and worse, the prices on the menu would go higher and higher. Pretty soon all of the customers began to head out and find a new place to go. Then unfortunatly as 2009 came to an end, the employees began to hear through the grape vine that they were out of jobs and hartmans was closed forever. No body believed it until it made the front page of the express times. The owner was so shady he took all the money that the business had left and fled the area, never telling his employees they had no where to work any more. Many hearts were broken, many tears were shed. Its very hard to believe how attached you come to a restaurant until its gone forever.
